Questions
Everything people ask us.
If yours is not here, ask us — we answer within two working days, and the good ones end up on this page.
The basics
What is HII?
A private way for a stranger to reach you about something of yours. You put a HII tag on a thing that matters — a bike, a set of keys, a dog, a laptop. Whoever finds it scans the tag with any phone camera, types a message, and it reaches you. Neither of you sees the other’s phone number at any point.
Does the person who finds my things need the app?
No. That is the whole design. They scan with the camera they already have, land on a web page, and can message you without installing anything or creating an account. The app is for owners, and it is optional even then.
Does it need internet or batteries?
The tag itself is printed — no battery, no chip to charge, nothing to pair. The person scanning needs a data connection to load the page, the same as opening any website.
Is this a GPS tracker?
No, and deliberately not. HII does not know where your things are. It gives them a way to be handed back when somebody finds them, which is what actually happens to most lost items.
Privacy
What can a stranger see when they scan my tag?
The item type, the name you gave it, your description and photo if you added one, and whether you have marked it lost. That is the complete list. No name, no number, no email, no address.
Will they get my phone number?
No. There is no query in the system that returns it to them. Messages go through HII, so neither side ever holds the other’s contact details.
What do you know about the person who found my thing?
Almost nothing, on purpose. HII never asks a finder for a name, a number or an email. If they choose to share an approximate area, it is rounded to about a kilometre before anything is written down.
Do you sell my data?
No. There are no advertising trackers on the site, no analytics SDKs, and no data sold or shared for marketing. The privacy policy lists every company that touches your data and what each one gets.
Finding and being found
Somebody found my thing. What happens?
You get a notification, and a conversation opens between you. You agree how to get it back — a doorstep, a shop counter, a security desk. HII stays in the middle the whole time.
What is lost mode?
A switch on any of your items. Turn it on and anyone who scans the tag sees that it is missing, along with a message you write and a reward if you are offering one. You can also publish it to the public lost-and-found board.
What is the public lost-and-found board?
A page anyone can browse at hii.cx/lost, listing items whose owners chose to publish them. Filter by state, city and item type. Publishing is a separate choice from marking something lost, and marking it returned takes it off again.
Can I find a vehicle owner from the number plate?
Yes, if the owner has turned that on — it is on by default. Type the registration at hii.cx and you reach the same page a scan reaches. It is for the times scanning is impossible: a car across a gate, a bike left after an accident.
Do I have to give a reward?
No. Most people who return something want nothing. If you do offer one, our code of conduct expects you to honour it, and expects a finder not to demand more.
Plans, delivery and money
What does it cost?
The tag is a one-off purchase. Protection itself has a free tier for one item, a one-time lifetime plan per item, and a monthly plan with extras. Current prices are on the pricing page, which reads them from the database rather than from anything written here.
How long does delivery take?
One to two working days to dispatch, then two to four days to metro cities and four to seven elsewhere. The shipping policy has the full table, including what happens when a parcel goes missing.
Can I get a refund?
Cancel any order before it is dispatched for a full refund. A damaged, faulty or wrong tag is replaced or refunded in full. A tag whose activation code has been used cannot be returned, because the code is the product. The refunds page has the rest.
Your account
How do I sign in?
A six-digit code sent to your email. No password to forget, and nothing to leak.
Why do you want my phone number?
To stop one person holding several accounts. It is never shown to a finder, never used for marketing, and you can see exactly where it is used in the privacy policy.
How do I delete my account?
Account, then Delete account, in the app or on the web. It happens immediately and removes your profile, items, tags and conversations. Past orders are kept in a de-identified form because tax law requires the financial record.
Is there an app?
For Android and iOS, for owners. It does what the website does — your things, your conversations, activating a tag by scanning it. A finder never needs it.
