About HII
Most lost things are found by someone decent.
They just have no way to reach you. That is the entire problem HII exists to solve — and the reason it collects as little as it does.
Why we built it
Write your number on a luggage tag and anyone who reads it can call you at 2am, forever. Leave it off and the person holding your keys has no option but to give up. That is the trade everybody has been making, and it is a bad one.
HII removes it. A tag carries no personal information at all — only a link. Whoever scans it can send you a message, and the message arrives without either of you learning anything about the other.
We started with the things people actually lose in India: two wheelers, helmets, house keys, school bags, pets, laptops on the bus. The tag is cheap and weatherproof because it has to survive a monsoon on the back of a scooter.
What we refuse to do
A lost-and-found product could be built as a directory of who owns what. That version would be easier to build, easier to sell to advertisers, and a permanent risk to everybody in it.
So the database function that answers a scan returns a fixed set of columns, and none of them are yours. There is no query anywhere in the system that hands a stranger your number. Scans record no IP address. Locations are rounded to about a kilometre before they are written down.
None of that is a setting you can accidentally turn off. It is how the thing is built, and the privacy policy describes what the code does rather than what we would like it to.
What we hold ourselves to
Nobody's number, either way
Not the owner's, not the finder's. There is no version of HII where a stranger ends up with your phone number.
Collect almost nothing
No trackers, no ad pixels, no IP addresses. A finder is never asked for a name, and we would not know what to do with one.
The finder comes first
They are doing you a favour. No app, no account, no form — three seconds from scan to a message box.
Say what is true
Every claim on these pages describes behaviour you could check. When something changes, the page changes with it.
Who we are
HII is a product of BUILTFORBUSINESS LLP, built in India for the way things get lost here. We are a small team, which is why the product does one thing and tries to do it properly.
If something is broken, we would rather hear it from you than not. There is a form for exactly that, and a person reads every one.
Where it is going
The public lost-and-found board came from owners asking to be findable by more than the tag itself. Vehicle lookup by number plate came from people staring at a car blocking their gate.
Both were built the same way: opt in per item, showing a stranger no more than a scan already does. That is the test every new idea has to pass here, and some do not.
